Moderator: “So you spoke about the dangers of contraception. Can you talk about why contraceptives are dangerous?”
Santorum: “What we are seeing is a problem in our culture with respect to children being raised by children, children being raised out of wedlock, and the economic impact and the impact on society.”
PRO TIP, BRO: BABIES HAPPEN WHEN YOU DON’T USE CONTRACEPTION, NOT WHEN YOU DO.

Holy fuck what an idiot

Wait, so taking away the contraception is going to stop kids from having sex and getting pregnant?
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME, ASSHOLE?!

I’ve read enough blogs making fun of conservatives over the years that I think what he’s getting at is the ~contraceptive mentality~ he believes to be at work here, which “allows” people to have (as Malkin once put it — whatever happened to her?) “consequence-free sex.” Note the “out of wedlock” mention. There are people who seem to think being married automatically solves poverty — that’s where the “economic impact” comes in. The existence of contraception, and the idea that it’s acceptable, has caused these overall problems. No, it doesn’t really hold up to scrutiny. I’m sure I’m not even explaining it well, but there is an underlying “logic” (not really) to what we’ve been seeing recently, be it the transvaginal thing, the attacks on Girl Scouts, and the bizarre statements on birth control. For the longest time, they had to allude to these things or only discuss them amongst themselves, and now that they’re talking about it on the national stage and people are realizing what’s going on, the wheels are coming off the bus and they’re less and less able to come at things sideways.
